Today…
Outside my window: it’s gray and miserable. The wind is howling, the leaves are falling, and a storm is brewing.

I am hearing: Olivia, a show on nick jr that my three year old likes. My one year old is babbling and blowing raspberries on one of her baby dolls.

I am thinking: that I’m going completely insane. I can’t, for the life of me, remember where I’ve placed things. There are evil goblins in my house that eat important things.

I am hoping: that my hubby gets home from work soon, so he can run to the bank and cash his paycheck, then deposit it in my account.

I am watching:
The Dresden Files, which hulu recommended I try. This morning, I watched Firefly for the umpteenth time and proceeded to purchase the series finally.

I am creating:
a new site for Jen Bend, plus a dozen of unfinished projects downstairs that I have to sort through before we move (if we even).

I am wearing: my H2F hoodie and black yoga pants. I’ll change out of scrubby clothes after I shower, which I didn’t manage to do during today’s naptime.

In the kitchen: is a gigantic pile of dishes overflowing the sink because a broken dishwasher is next to them. I’m seriously tempted to just buy a new one and tell the repair man to go screw. For dinner this week, which I’m making up on the spot based on the meat I bought because a goblin ate the meal plan I wrote down earlier:

  • Monday: Salad and Ravioli in a meat sauce
  • Tuesday: Veggie and ground beef stirfry with brown sauce
  • Wednesday: Turkey, mashed potatoes, steamed veggies
  • Thursday: Pork Tenderloin with rice and salad
  • Friday: leftover fritatta, if there’s enough. Backup plan: pizza

Around the house: I switched my living room and dining room about a month ago, and I love it. We use the dining room more, eat as a family more, and I can watch the kids play in the living room while I’m on the computer. We have a great opportunity to move to a much cheaper and larger house in a less desireable area. I think it’s a great idea, and we’ll save about $10,000 annually.

Plans for the week: I have a bunch of work to get done. I have to pick up my order at best buy. I have to exercise a whole lot more and hydrate myself. I need to set a better timeline for my quarterly goals, since there’s only 2 months left of this year.

A few things to share:

  • A beautiful kitchen island (finally!)
Welcome to what I like to call THE LONGEST PROJECT IN THE HISTORY OF MAN. OK, a little dramatic, but really. It took forever. Serious. Serious. It started two and a half years ago when I took our builder basic kitchen island: And added some molding and paint: The sides of the island were made from that crapastic laminate stuff that you need to paint with pri […]

  • Disturbing. Distressing. Heartbreaking. Sad.
A sense of sadness. Uneasiness. Distress. A memory of many decades ago. Back. Clear. Painful. Like it just happened. Just now. It involves a boy. A young boy… 14, going on 15. A boy I had in one of my Reading classes. A boy whom Barry had, too, in one of his Math classes. The boy was small.  Slight.  A shock of black, wavy hair a stark contrast to his pale s […]

  • How to Bring Peace to the Witching Hour
Many parents notice that from roughly 4 to 5 pm, every day is a difficult time for their children. This rough spot in the day seems to affect children from newborns on up to adolescence.  To be honest, it’s the one time of the day that takes me to the brink of absolutely losing it. What is the witching hour? This hour that rocks and rolls in all the wrong wa […]

  • Emotional RICE
Any good derby girl (that is, one who has had an injury) knows the importance of RICE: Rest, Ice, Compression, and Elevation. Following these steps ensures a timely recovery from the breaks and bruises that come with the sport. I am an expert at these steps because I have suffered quite a few injuries over the past few years. I was thinking how nice it would […]

  • On geeking out.
Yesterday was a day for geeking out. I posted a cute video of my 4 year old telling me a Phineas and Ferb bedtime story, swooning with mommy love at his creativity and may I just say, fantastic memory. It really impresses me how much of the show’s details he has absorbed and memorized – and this is a trait that carries through to many other areas. Songs we l […]
