Today…
Outside my window: it’s a beautiful day. Cold, crisp and not a cloud in the sky. A good day to bundle up and spend outside, but I’ll be in here packing, of course.
I am hearing: ,eerily, silence. This is pretty amazing.
I am thinking: That it’ll be nice to pretty much pick out my own fit and finish for a house, even though the fit and finish in our current house is perfect and I wouldn’t change a thing. I’m also thinking that my Christmas decorations are up and the house is pretty clean right now, which makes me relax.
I am hoping: for a digital scale and the ab lounger. I worked out everyday after we made an exercise room at my parent’s house. It’s very convenient to have that space in your house. Unfortunately, I don’t have enough room, but I think I could stick the ab lounger in the kitchen while I use it and then put it away when I’m done. OR I could just beg Alex to move to NC and Mom to convert the garage/frog into an inlaw.
I am reading: The Lost Symbol by Dan Brown, only because Phil left it on the table, and I can’t help but read anything around. I read a third of Dear American Airlines, but haven’t gotten a copy from the library to finish it. After reading an article in Women’s Day magazine, I really want to check out The Happiness Project.
I am creating: lunchmeat. No really, I’m roasting a turkey so that I can shred it for lunches.
I am wearing: a black tank top and sage green shorts. It’s really cold in here, so the bathrobe will be fetched soon.
In the kitchen: is January 2010’s issue of Women’s Day magazine, open to Denise Austin’s eating plan. It gives you 4 meals a day for one person, which I’m then multiplying by 5 for the menagerie living here. It’s all based on the Power of 12, which is also what her new book is about. In addition to following this diet, I’m drinking one protein shake a day, taking my fish oil and vitamins, and failing to work out. For dinner this week:
- Monday: Macaroni, Sausages, and meatballs in Francisco Rinaldi’s Tomato and Basil sauce
- Tuesday: Cilantro Lime Chicken, homemade mashed potatoes, and green beans
- Wednesday: I need to use up the meatballs, sausage, and chicken in the frigde…so I’m thinking some sort of funky meat stoup….and salad
- Thursday: Maple Glazed Salmon, rice, and veggies….and salad
- Friday: veggie quesadilla (which looks wicked easy to make)
- Saturday: Grilled Shrimp with Honey-kissed Grilled Pineapple and steamed snow peas….and probably salad (why did I buy so much salad this week?)
Around the house: Maintain, Maintain, Maintain. My Christmas decorations are already up, so I don’t have to worry about that. I do need to clean the basement still.
Plans for the week: Peapod didn’t bring a bunch of stuff I ordered, so I trip to the market is in store. Other than that, we’re going to focus on finish work at the new place. I want to get floor, paint, plumbing, and gas line estimates this week, which means I need to get my butt moving. Derby practice on Sunday per usual.
A few things to share:
- Caricature map of Europe, 1914
- Make Vintage Santa Art for a Buck!
- A retail trend that has been around for a while in bigger cities has been making its way to Providence recently, the Pop Up shop. Waste Not Want Not popped up for a while over the summer on Westminster, and from what I understand they are continuing with some other non-traditional retailing. And coming soon to the space next to Oop! we have Calico. Calico is a successful vintage clothing store located in New Bedford that will be popping up on Westminster on November 27th and plans to hang around through New Years.
- Dead Caulfields maintains an unauthorized online collection of the 22 stories written by J.D. Salinger.
- When people ask me what I do all day I have a hard time summing it up. I design, I edit, I think, I review, I suggest, I teach. Some things I mess up, some things I fix up. I’m a tailor.
- Kid friendly stir-fry concept. Read Full Post

- I am sooo making 3 Handmade Santa Plates this week with my kids. I also found How to Make a Wreath Using Plastic Bags, but I think I’ll refrain. I’m pretty happy with where my christmas decorations are right now.
- T-shirt for Roland Semprie, Personal Trainer
- What Does 300 Calories Really Look Like?
- Amikasa is a 3D virtual home decor web application with a selection of recognizable design classics to toy around with.
- Quilters Grid Interfacing would make my life easier. I’m not sure why I haven’t done this before.
- DIY Travel High Chair Wrap
- Swedish designer Hedvig af Ekenstam makes soft decorative radiators from heating cables.
- The Boston Globe has a slideshow with a few examples from the now-declassified Official CIA Manual of Trickery and Deception.
